  1. Use the Finding Preferences pane to make Finds as quick and easy as possible, and tailor them to your needs.

  4. Check default search fields scrolling list: Select the fields where you want Now Contact to search by default. Select a field by clicking to the left of its name so that a checkmark appears. Clear a field by clicking the checkmark, which disappears.

  6. Comparison pop-up menu: Choose the criteria to determine how to match text in a Find:

  8. •    exactly matches: The specified field contains exactly the text you type, with no extra or missing characters.
  9.  
  10. •    starts with: The specified field starts with the text you type.
  11.  
  12. •    ends with: The specified field ends with the text you type.
  13.  
  14. •    contains: The specified field contains at least the text you type.
  15.  
  16. •    doesn't contain: The specified field doesn't contain the text you type.
  17.  
  18. •    contains anything: The specified field contains something.
  19.  
  20. •    contains nothing: The specified field is empty.
  21.  
  22. •    is less than: The specified field is less than the text you type.
  23.  
  24. •    is greater than: The specified field is greater than the text you type.
  25.  
  26. •    is less than or equal to: The specified field is less than or equal to the text you type, either alphabetically or numerically.

  28. •    is greater than or equal to: The specified field is greater than or equal to the text you type, either alphabetically or numerically.

  30. •    is between: The specified field is between the text you type in the first text field and the text you type in the second text field. The second field appears when you select this option.

  32. Where pop-up menu: Specify how found Contacts affect the Contacts displayed in the List View after a Find. Choose:

  34. •    Contact File: To search the entire Contact File for matches.
  35.  
  36. •    Within List: To limit the search to Contacts displayed in the List View. Useful when you've already performed one Find and want to narrow down the found list.

  38. List pop-up menu: Specify how found Contacts affect the Contacts displayed in the List View after a Find. Choose:

  40. •    Replace: To replace the Contacts displayed in the List View with found Contacts.
  41.  
  42. •    Add to: To add found Contacts to the Contacts displayed in the List View.
  43.  
  44. •    Omit from: To omit any Contacts matching the search criteria from the List View, but not from your Contact File.

  46. Ignore accents when searching notes checkbox: Check this box for a faster Find.
